Ang Istorya ni Yoyo Tricker

Talentadong Pinoy contender Joshua Davis from Quezon City, more popularly known as the amazing ‘Yoyo Tricker’, may have lost one, but he has gained millions.

Keeping his winning streak alive for the fourth time last Saturday which put TV5’s Talentadong Pinoy at the top of the ratings, 13 year-old Joshua Rafael Davis, a.k.a. ‘The Yoyo Tricker’, is now onto his fifth performance—his final luck of getting in the show’s pool of ‘Hall of Famers’. But the Yoyo Tricker does not see his victories as a mere stroke of luck, but by a divine guidance from his brother, to whom Joshua dedicates his performances and achievements since he lost him to a brain tumor right before joining the reality talent show.

“Idea po talaga namin parehong magkapatid ang sumali,” Joshua shares, as he and his brother Justin, who he fondly calls “Kuya Bugoy” were supposed to audition together and perform as partners. Joshua had his interests in playing the yoyo when he was eight years old, and together with his Kuya Bugoy, started joining mall competitions and exhibitions where they had the opportunity to be mentored by the Duncan Crew Worldwide Yoyo masters. “Hobby lang po talaga, natuwa po kasi kami ng kuya ko. Bali sabay po kaming nahilig at natuto,” says Joshua.

But after battling brain tumor for years, his Kuya Bugoy passed away on an ill-timed circumstance last April 20, right when the two were preparing to audition for Talentadong Pinoy, leaving Joshua to continue on his own and carry on with his Kuya Bugoy’s shared dream. Joshua went on the auditions on June 1, after undergoing huge adjustments from the family’s loss. “Inaral ko po `yung ibang hindi ko pa perfect na tricks,” says Joshua when he had to modify his yoyo tricks for a solo performance.

Obviously, Joshua isn’t lacking inspiration, especially when he won in Talentadong Pinoy for the first time last June 20—the same day his Kuya Bugoy supposedly celebrated his 17th birthday. And so Joshua believes that his brother never left him, and is still guiding and helping him live their dream.

Joshua and his brother have also won several awards and recognitions before joining the show, usually in mall competitions wherein Joshua had his first break when he won 3rd place in the Auldey Freestyle Yoyo Contest. This led him to compete in the 2008 Asian Yoyo Competition in Beijing, together with his siblings Bugoy and Jaimie, where Joshua won and was included in the Top 10.

Despite Joshua’s busy schedule as a 2nd year high school student in New Era University, he makes sure he practices his looping and freehand tricks and techniques every day. But the young lad is not only talented in his yoyo, as he also enjoys singing, dancing, boxing, playing the guitar, playing basketball, volleyball, and badminton.

Joshua is expected to deliver his final and best performance this week, where the jurors will decide his fate to be part of Talentadong Pinoy’s ‘Hall of Fame’, joining Hall of Fame titleholders “The Acrobatic” Gutierrez Family, and Wan Lu the puppeteer. If the Yoyo Tricker once again impresses the jury and his audience this Saturday, he would be the youngest contestant to bag the ‘Hall of Fame’ championship title in the show’s history.

But Joshua remains humble despite his amazing talent and his victories. “Isang oportunidad po ito parasa`kin para maipakita ang talent ko, pero dapat unahin ko pa rin ang pag-aaral at manatiling mabait,” the young Yoyo Tricker said.
His parents and his sister are in all-out support to him in spite of their grief, believing that this is all for his whole family and for his Kuya Bugoy who is his motivation and inspiration. “Dati po kaming masayang pamilya dahil kumpleto po kami, ngayon po may lungkot pa rin talaga,” he emotionally shares. “Pero ang buong pamilya at ang kuya ko pa rin po ang inspirasyon ko, itinutuloy ko pa rin po ang pangarap namin.”

The biggest news in the ratings game this weekend is that TV5 has conquered Saturday viewing; with three of its programs making it in the winners' circle.

After placing third for the past few weeks, TV5's talent show Talentadong Pinoy made a major leap last Saturday, July 11, to lead all primetime programs. The show, hosted by Ryan Agoncillo, posted a rating of 26.2 percent. This is based on the latest overnight survey conducted by AGB Nielsen Phils. among Mega Manila households.

Coming in second behind Talentadong Pinoy was GMA-7's Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho with 25.3 percent; followed by Imbestigador (23.5 percent), and ABS-CBN's XXX (20.9 percent) to complete the Top 5.

The other slots were occupied by Maalaala Mo Kaya (20.6 percent), Are You The Next Big Star? (18 percent), Pinoy Records and The Singing Bee (16.5 percent).

Aside from Talentadong Pinoy, two other TV5 programs made it in the Top 10 rankings: Midnight DJ (No. 9) and, for the first time, Vic Sotto's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (No. 10).

Sali na sa TV5 at Cosplaymania's Costube Cosplay Video Contest!

The theme of the video contest is “Group Cosplay.”

Participants must create a video consisting of a group of cosplayers performing a skit or other similar executions, to be uploaded and open for online viewing (via YouTube).

The skit can be in the form of role play (i.e. action, drama, comedy), either a re-enactment of scenes from certain animation / live-action shows that are not on other local channels except TV5, or an original storyline.

It can even be an advertisement promoting the cosplay event itself (Cosplay Mania '09).

It's up to you to decide what kind of video you want to present so long as it's fun and enjoyable to watch.
Video entry should be no longer than two (2) minutes in length.
Costube logo, Cosplay Mania logo and TV5 logo will be provided and are required to appear within the video.

This can take in any form but the logo itself should be unaltered.
To submit the video entry, it must be uploaded to YouTube.

Link should be submitted in the online form posted in the Cosplay Mania site. Note: Information from registration will be shared by Cosplay Mania organizers and TV5.
Videos can be submitted starting June 1, 2009.

The last day for submission is on August 8, 2009, 11:59 PM.
TV5 and Cosplay Mania officials will pick the top five (5) video entries on August 15, 2009.

These videos will be featured on TV5 during the weeks leading to the Cosplay Mania 2009 event.

These will also be featured during the event on September 13, 2009.
Cash prizes of Php10,000 will be awarded to each of the top five (5) finalists.
The Grand Costube winner will be awarded a cash prize of Php50,000.

Last Wednesday, February 25, TV5 held another chapter of a fabulous party, THE 2ND BLOGGERS EVENT @ Redbox Greenbelt in Makati. The stars of the night, the TV5 BLOGGERS, belted their favorite songs, shared smiles and jokes with each other.

Pep.ph - Dalawa ang umalis, dalawa naman ang pumasok sa ending ng second season ng nag-iisang teen show sa reformatted TV5, ang Lipgloss. Sa kalagitnaan ng second season, nawala ang Star Magic Batch 16 member na si Cheska Garcia at sumabay na rin ang partner nitong STAGES-managed at Little Big Star first winner na si Sam Concepcion.

Papasok ng magkasunod na episodes after its New Year episode ang Be Bench winner and Desperadas 2 co-star na si Carlo Guevara bilang si Jose Mari, ang makaka-triangle ng dalawang bagong artista na sina Czarina Suzara at Neil Coleta playing Julivee at Caloy, respectively.

Susundan naman siya ni Matt Evans na gaganap bilang si Nikko Lopez, isang artistang nag-shoot ng pelikula sa eskuwelahan ng mga bidang bagets. Pinsan ng kanyang character si Kyle Lopez, na ginampanan naman ni Sam at may-ari rin ng eskuwelahan.

Ito ang pangalawang TV5 show ni Matt dahil lumalabas din ang dating Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition housemate sa sitcom na Everybody Hapi . Bale ito rin ang reunion show nila ng mga co-housemate niya sa PBB na sina Mikee Lee at Fred Payawan na mga regular cast ng Lipgloss.

Ilan pa sa napagpilian para sa dalawang bagong roles sa Lipgloss ay ang tatlo namang housemates sa second season ng PBB Teen edition na sina Ejay Falcon, Robi Domingo, at Josef Elizalde. Hindi pumuwede si Robi dahil may ginagawa na itong mga shows sa sister stations ng ABS-CBN na MYX at Channel 23.

Isa namang homegrown talent ng TV5 ang na-introduce sa Lipgloss in its Christmas episode, si Jessa Joy Mendoza. According to PEP.ph magkakaroon daw ng sariling gameshow si Ms. Gretchen Barretto sa TV5. Although wala pang masyadong detalye sinasabing November daw ipapalabas ang bagong show.

“You and Me Against the World” ang title ng show ni Greta na inaasahang magiging fabulosa dahil sa mga kakaibang prizes at sorpresa ng show at ng host.
